Içmeler information

Içmeler is surrounded by cool, clear mineral springs, named from the Turkish verb 'Içmek' which means 'to drink'. Set at the foot of the pine-clad Palamut Hills, which encircle the bay, Içmeler offers the best of both worlds; from a beach and pool-style holiday to an excellent range of shops, bars and restaurants. And yet it still hasn't lost its traditional way of life.

Cleopatra's Island - renowned for its amazingly soft organic sand. Legend has it that the sand was brought by ships from the Red Sea especially for Cleopatra. Indeed, Marc Anthony and Cleopatra took holidays here and Anthony gave this region to Cleopatra as a wedding gift - all right for some!
Çiftlik - with one of the largest beaches in the area, visit Turunç, Amos Bay and Kumlubük (famous for its fish restaurants).

Dalyan & Caunos - Dalyan is host to Turtle Beach, one of the last surviving breeding grounds of the logger head turtle. Riverboats sail you along a reeded delta to the King Rock tombs, which were carved into the hillside, dating from 4500BC. In Caunos, try the mud baths for an, apparently, more youthful skin.

The waterfalls of Pamukkale with their therapeutic spring waters.
The archaeological site of Ephesus, the best preserved classical city of the Eastern Mediterranean and a 'must-see' for its Roman atmosphere.

Shopping
In summer, mini-markets sell imported food as well as a wide range of local produce, including reasonably priced Turkish wines, beer, cigarettes, fruit juices, fruits and vegetables. Essential items such as baby products (powdered milk, nappies, etc.) and toiletries (shampoos, sun lotions, etc.) are available.

Içmeler Market
Icmeler's weekly market offers an array of products including food, drink, clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery. Held every Wednesday, be prepared to bargain!

Nightlife
Içmeler is not a clubbing resort, but there are plenty of bars, disco bars and restaurants. However, those who want a taste of nightlife can take a minibus or taxi to Marmaris. Icmeler's only nightclub is 'Pleasure'.

Really! Believed to be the world's first beachfront ice skating rink!
